Overview

The Killarney Centre Figure Skating Club (KCFSC) is a non-profit organization run entirely by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our mission is to provide an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for all individuals to develop skating skills in alignment with Skate Canada standards.

The success of our Club depends on the active participation of our members. Volunteering is a great way to support your skater, learn more about the sport of figure skating, and build connections within our community. There are many meaningful ways to get involved throughout the year.

Volunteer Commitment

To support Club operations, all families with skaters enrolled in Competitive (Junior & Senior CompSTAR) programs are required to participate in the Club’s volunteer program or make a donation in lieu of volunteer time.

Volunteer Deposit

  • A $200 volunteer deposit per family will be collected during registration via credit card.

  • This deposit will be credited back to the member account once the family completes the minimum of 3 volunteer hours for the skating season (September 1 – August 31).

  • If you prefer not to volunteer, you may choose to donate your bond to the Club. Please notify the Volunteer Coordinator if you wish to opt out.

  • In special cases, refunds may be considered at the discretion of the Board.

Application, Tracking, and Confirmation

  • Our Volunteer Coordinator will announce when volunteer opportunities become available, but it is the responsibility of each family to seek out and complete volunteer opportunities listed on our Volunteer Signup page.

  • As the Volunteer Signup page list can get quite full, it may be best to use the filters on the left, such as "Category" or Category Level" to narrow the list of appropriate opportunities for you.

  • Each volunteer opportunity will have a "credit" value associated to it.  1 credit will be equivalent to 1 volunteer hour.

  • Volunteer opportunities applied for and hours accumulated will be tracked and listed under the Volunteering section in My Account.

  • Once your volunteer opportunity has been completed, it will be marked as completed and can be viewed in the Volunteering section of My Account
If it has not been confirmed after a week, please reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator via email.

  • If you will be unable to fulfill your volunteering for an applied opportunity, please reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator so that the opportunity can be reopened for application.

  • Deposits will be credited back to member accounts towards the end of the skating season.

  • Volunteer hours cannot be carried over to future years.

  • KCFSC Board Members are exempt due to their ongoing contributions.

We would like to acknowledge in the spirit of reconciliation and gratitude that our skating club resides on the lands of the Musqueam [Mus-kwee-um], Squamish [Squa-mish], and Tsleil-Waututh [Slay-wha-tooth] Nations where our skaters and community has the opportunity to live, work, learn and train.
